The Deutsch connector terminology may appear confusing to begin with, but once you know how they describe each part of a connector, it will become far easier.

Pin Terminal - This is the male electrical contact that lives in the "Socket".

Socket Terminal - This is the female electrical contact that lives in the "Plug".

Plug - Is the male plastic housing. The plastic "Socket" is inserted into the Plug. The Plug holds the Socket Terminals.

Socket - Is the female plastic housing. It is inserted into the Plug. The Socket holds the Pin Terminals.
