Can You Spot A Fake Bosch 044?

Fake EFI Fuel Pumps are becoming prolific on the internet, and they can be very difficult to spot.

And, Bosch 044 pumps are one of the most commonly copied, and sold as genuine.  The two downsides to using non-genuine Bosch 044 pumps, is they are often far more noisy than genuine Bosch pumps, and they fail much sooner than genuine pumps.  I've even spoken to a gentleman who bought two 044's and when he ran them, fuel poured out from between the outside case and the end-plate where the electrical connections are located.

There's nothing good to say about the fake Bosch 044 fuel pumps.

Here is how you spot a fake Bosch 044 before you install it and end up paying a high price to save a few dollars.

But first, a quick test you should run through.

Have a look at these photos and see if you can spot the fake.

A)

B)

C)

Actually, they are all fakes.

There are three main differences between the genuine 044 pumps and the fake 044 copies.

A) Run Very Noisy.

B) Do Not Last as Long as Genuine 044 pumps.

C) The colour on the blue electrical terminal is lighter on the genuine pump.

D) The box, although very similar, has slightly different artwork to genuine.

E) The genuine pump weighs around 1.022Kg, and the fake pump weighs around 1.064Kg.  Bosch are very stringent with the weights of their products.  If your pump weighs (empty) more than 1.050Kg, there ia good indication that it may not what it appears to be.

F) Supply chain - Our supply chain has been supplying genuine 044 pumps for decades, and they are very transparent in telling us if they ever move from genuine to non-genuine.  And, the non-genuine items are not labelled as genuine.  They are not in a ripped off Bosch box.
